A Canados motor yacht has caught fire and sank in the Gulf of Tallinn, Estonia. According to local reports, the 27-metre (88-foot) superyacht had ten people on board when the fire broke out at around 15:30 on 30th July 2022.
The yacht is reported to be named Hooligan and was registered under a Finnish flag.
Instagram account @salvage_and_wreck reported the yacht stopped running due to a technical fault, which some minutes later developed into a fire. After making a Mayday call, the crew and passengers boarded the yacht’s liferaft. They were picked up by a nearby boat and later were transferred over to the Estonian Rescue Unit, which took them to Tallinn’s Kakumäki port.
According to local and Finnish media outlets, the yacht sank at around 18:30 and the Estonian coastguard is now working on lifting her to avoid further oil pollution.
Police and Border Guard Service said Hooligan was carrying around 12 tonnes of fuel when the incident happened.
Hooligan is believed to have been launched by Italian shipyard Canados in 2008.
