55m Project Phi takes shape

Dutch yard Royal Huisman has unveiled the first construction images of its highly secretive 55-metre (180-foot) superyacht Project Phi.

First announced in 2018, and with design engineering well underway, construction began at the Vollenhove shipyard in mid-February this year.

The never-before-seen images show the yacht’s fast-displacement, aluminium hull taking shape at the yard – with the hull turning scheduled for later this year.

"The resulting hull will provide a comfortable and stable platform for this radical and high performance vessel, notwithstanding the relatively narrow beam that contributes to Phi's striking looks," the yard said.

Cor D. Rover is responsible for the yacht’s exterior, while Lawson Robb leads the interior brief. The yard is yet to disclose any further details, however she will feature extensive external deck space with proportions governed by the ‘Sectio divina’, or Golden Ratio, from which Project Phi takes her name.

Weighing just under 500GT, Van Oossanen Naval Architects will implement naval architecture, utilising its Fast Displacement XL hull form.

She will be able to house a total of 12 guests, with a staff quarters big enough for 11 crew.

Delivery is expected to take place in 2021.
