Crews were up early on Friday to prepare for a third day of racing around the coast of Falmouth at the Pendennis Cup following work on the yachts during Thursday’s lay day.
Although the lighter winds proved difficult to some, spectators were fascinated to see the response by the fleet, and watch the race tactics around the course.
On each tack the fleet divided, some taking the coastal routes to maximise the offshore breezes, whilst others took the less direct route tacking across the reach with spinnakers flying.
The day saw Mikado, a 47m sailing yacht in Class 3 and Mariquita, a 38m yacht in Class 2 come into their own, with impressive tactics by both throughout the race leading to victories on corrected time.
The owners, captains and sponsors were treated to a five-star meal hosted by Pendennis with champagne tasting courtesy of Moët & Chandon and an evening of live music at Princess Pavilions.
Friday's racing was a hard fought battle again, and the crews discussed tactics and results at the Crew Curry night at Falmouth's Ghurka Restaurant, attended by over 200 crew.
