More than 40 delegates from across the UK gathered at the Marwell Hotel in Winchester for the annual ABYA conference last month. The conference provided an opportunity for brokers and marine industry professionals to network, whilst receiving in-depth information and training.
Specialist subjects included legal pitfalls (insurance, money laundering, etc…), leasing schemes, yacht finance market overview, and a talk on why and how boats have changed the survey. Each talk was given by an industry expert, including Martin Penny from Hill Dickinson solicitors, Chris Allix from Dominion Finance IOM, Leon Batchelor from Arc & Co, and Duncan Saunders from Saunders Morgan Harris Surveyors.
Colin Craig, Full Member of ABYA said; “As always a very worthwhile trip to the ABYA Summer Conference, which is a great combination of informative presentations to keep up to date on important issues to yacht brokerage, along with a unique opportunity to meet other industry professionals, not only from the brokerage industry but other related fields, and hopefully develop relationships for future co-operation”.
The Practical Yacht Brokerage Course was also held last month, run by Owen Box, the former ABYA Chairman and YBDSA President; the course attracted a variety of 20 delegates from experienced brokers, to those who had no experience in brokerage. Professionals in their field gave talks on Law, VAT, RCD, Finance and Surveying. The next Practical Yacht Brokerage Course will be held on 22/23 October - for further information contact Kay Greenwood at the YBDSA, [email protected]
