Activities for crew to do in and around the marina

With thanks to Karpaz Gate Marina and Vilanova Grand Marina.

It is well-known that crew will often work long days before time off where they can escape to dry land. With help from Karpaz Gate Marina and Vilanova Grand Marina, Yachting Pages has written a guide on the top five things for crew to do when the yacht is docked.

To the bar!

There is nothing better than a cold refreshing drink to begin a day off, whether an alcoholic beverage or a virgin mojito. If crew are lucky enough to be within a two-minute walk of a bar when on dry land, they will surely make the most of it.

Inga Parfenova, sales and client relations manager at Karpaz Gate Marina commented, “Visiting crews are entitled to discounts at the renowned Hemingway’s Resto-Bar along the promenade at Karpaz Gate Marina. With seating for up to 200 people and widescreen TV screens for news and sport, the restaurant also serves traditional Cypriot cuisine as well as salads, pasta, fish and meat dishes.”

Gym o’clock

Many luxury yachts will have an on-board gym, or at least gym equipment that crew will be luckily enough to use. However, if you don’t fancy a gentle jog along the promenade, it is more than likely well-equipped marinas will have an on-shore gym.

Elisabeth Campà, communications dept. at Vilanova Grand Marina said, “Nowadays, Vilanova Grand Marina – Barcelona has a special agreement with the best gym in town called Aqua. This gym offers a selection of great sport facilities, spa and beauty treatments for captains and crew.”

Something different

If becoming a tourist for the day is more your thing and with many marinas being set in some of the most beautiful corners of the planet, visit the local market to try the fresh cuisine, take a trip to a remote beach for a BBQ or find an art gallery and stare at beautiful paintings. Crew should take advantage of the WiFi when ashore and spend a short time researching the local area to find more cultural activities to do.

On the other hand, many marinas will hold attractive crew events on a regular basis from crew parties to day trips around the local town as Elisabeth commented, “Vilanova Grand Marina often arranges wine tasting and BBQ’s for crew to relax and enjoy. Our next activity will be a ski weekend at a ski resort in the Pyrenees Mountains with an itinerary full of mushing activities, local mountain gastronomy and parties.

“Our hospitality desk team takes care of all the necessities and requirements for the daily routine of superyachts, captains and crew members in the marina. In addition, they frequently organise interesting and challenging activities for crew to let them know first-hand the surroundings and enjoying our excellent cuisine and cultural traditions.”

Inga went on to say, “Karpaz Gate Marina is in a beautiful destination, and the luxury beach club is a great facility for visiting crew. Crew receive free membership throughout their stay and are welcome to come at any time. As well as this, crew will have use of the 33m infinity pool, Jacuzzi, decking area with private cabanas and loungers, showers and changing rooms.”

Water sports

If you’re not completely fed up with the sight of the sea after a long haul on board, make use of the incredible water toys that are currently on the market. From exhilarating water skiing, to a far from leisurely ride on the banana boat, there is always something to do on the water.

Or, how about giving this a go?
