Alva Yachts commences work on first Ocean Eco 90 catamaran

New German yacht builder Alva Yachts has showcased its all-electric 27.5-metre (90-foot) solar catamaran model Ocean Eco 90.

The moulds for the hull and superstructure are currently being completed, with the multihull yacht expected to launch in late 2021.

The catamaran boasts more than 200 square metres of solar panelling and is available with hybrid or full electric propulsion. The Ocean Eco 90 will have an estimated cruising speed of 8-10 knots and a top speed of 16-18 knots, as well as a “virtually unlimited range”.

Designed by Henndesign with naval engineering by the iYachts studio, the catamaran will have a beam of 14 metres and draft of 1.2 metres.

The news comes after Alva Yachts revealed a range of eco yachts, including the Ocean Eco 60, which is also under construction.

The builder also has the Ocean Sail 82 under development, which features hybrid propulsion, a high-capacity battery bank and state-of-the-art rig.
