As we approach the default date for the UK’s exit from the EU (11pm on 31st January 2020), leading HVAC companies have been provided with the following information.
This data is particularly important for individuals and companies who are certified by UK bodies to operate with ozone depleting substances (ODS) and fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-Gas).
If the UK leaves the EU without a deal, ODS and F-Gas certificates and training attestations awarded by a certification body in the UK will no longer be recognised within the remaining EU member states.
This will apply to both personal F-Gas qualification certificates and to F-Gas Register company certificates.
If you are affected by this and wish to continue working in the EU zone, post Brexit, then you will need to hold an EU-issued F-Gas qualification personal certificate and an EU-issued company F-Gas Register certificate.
If you do not work outside of the UK or non-EU countries then this does not affect you.
Implications for individuals
At 11pm on 31st January 2020, F-Gas certificates awarded by a UK certification body will no longer be recognised within the remaining EU member states.
All exchanges of personal certificates must be made before 11pm on 31st January 2020.
Implications for companies
The free exchange programme for company certificates finished on the 31st December 2019. To work in Europe after 31st January 2020, you will need to purchase an EU certificate form and pay a fee according to the size of your business.
Certification as a company will be processed by F-Gas Registration Limited.
You can only purchase an EU company certificate if you have engineers with EU personal certificates.
