What is a typical flame-retardant veneer treatment timeframe?

Interior Proman will need to receive a sample of the client’s veneer to confirm it does not have any discoloration and would be applicable for treatment. The veneer should be delivered to the treatment facility in Austria and will take approximately three weeks before it is ready for collection.

Are all treated veneers safe to handle, work and live with?

REACH is an EU regulation that ensures products provide a high level of protection to human health and the environment whilst using chemicals. The regulations concern registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals. If a product like Limartec® conforms to REACH regulations it is known to keep treated veneer durable.

Which certification is required for flame retardant treated veneers?

SOLAS, PYC & REG Yacht Code (B) state that in certain areas, all exposed surfaces for interiors must conform to IMO resolution MSC.307 (88) - FTP Code 2010 Part 5 & Part 2.

How can you confirm if a veneer is treated?

Every bundle of veneer is MED wheel-marked and delivered with papers confirming it’s a treated veneer. The Limartec® treatment is invisible, leaving no salty residue on the veneer surface so you cannot see if it has been treated. Simply burning a small piece of veneer will confirm if it has been treated as treated veneers stop burning almost immediately after removing the source of flame.

Is it possible to treat a dyed or technical veneer?

Yes. Many of these veneers have been treated with no side effects or discoloration. We always recommend making tests to confirm this before treating a full project.

How can treated veneers be jointed?

Treated veneers can be jointed but it is necessary to make some small adjustments to machinery speed and temperature.

What kind of adhesives can be used with treated veneers?

PV and PU (Polyvinylacetat and Polyurethane) glues have been used successfully. Bonding should be carried out using the method shown on the certificate.

Is it possible to stain treated veneers?

Yes. Limartec® has been successfully certified together with stains.

Does humidity and UV affect treated veneers?

The cautious, non-aggressive treatment used for Limartec® products showed successful results in the following tests: Humidity tests up to 90% relative air humidity, long-term tests from - 20°C to 80°C +, UV exposure and pull off value. Treatment can make the surface more sensitive to UV light exposure but this can be controlled. In regards to climate impact, get in contact with us for a competent consultation.
