Balk Shipyard appoints Evan Kortmann as new chief commercial officer

Balk Shipyard has announced the appointment of Evan Kortmann as its new chief commercial officer for the Dutch shipyard.

Since its initial operations in 1798, Balk Shipyard has become a leading player in superyacht rebuild, conversion and repair. Having recently undertook a merger, the shipyard is now part of the Zhongying International Holding Group Ltd, which will support future expansion plans.

The appointment of Kortmann will prove instrumental in Balk Shipyard’s growth, by using his skillset which has been honed through both the yachting and retail sectors.

Kortmann directed operations for major DIY retail stores before joining the yachting industry. In 2015, following Kortmann’s shift into the yachting industry, he began working as the director of Sevenstar Yacht Transport and later founded the local transport company We Ship Yachts.

Kortmann commented, “When I moved into the yachting sector, I was struck by how product-focused the industry is. Coming from a retail background, I am used to a more business-oriented approach that takes on more facets than the product itself. It is this holistic approach that I will bring to Balk Shipyard and apply during this exciting period of growth and development. At the end of the day, it's all about putting a smile on the face of your customer.”
