BLUE hails success of London to Monaco cycle ride 2019

UK-based charity Blue Marine Foundation has hailed the success of this year’s London to Monaco charity cycle ride.

The 900km-ride, which took place between the 17th and 24th September, has raised over £530,000 towards BLUE’s ocean conservation work. All these funds will be used to support projects in the Ascension Island, Maldives, Patagonia, Cyprus, Namibia and Azerbaijan. 66 riders took part in the challenge, which saw them depart from Windsor Royal Park before heading south and crossing the Bay of Biscay, travelling through the Spanish Basque country and over the Pyrenees, down through Provence and then into Monaco.

Sara-Jane Skinner, head of partnerships at BLUE, said, “London to Monaco has quickly developed into BLUE's biggest fundraising event, attracting riders from all corners of the world who all share a common passion for the ocean. The fourth year has been our best ride yet, raising over half a million pounds for ocean conservation.

“The money raised in total over the last four years has reached a staggering £1.5million, which has played a huge part in securing the largest fully marine-protected area in the Atlantic, around Ascension Island. It's safe to say the London to Monaco bike ride is making conservation history and we are already in preparations for 2020, which we hope will be even bigger.”

Steve Crowe, Yachting Pages founder and CEO, took part in the annual ride for the second consecutive year and cited the 2019 edition as being the most enjoyable yet.

“It’s always an honour to represent Yachting Pages and take part in the London to Monaco cycle rides in support of Blue Marine Foundation, raising money for such a worthwhile cause. This year’s ride was definitely challenging but, as always, a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

“I’m proud to have played a part in raising a record-breaking total for BLUE, and would like to thank everyone who has supported me and the other riders this year.”
