Brazil prepares for superyacht influx at World Cup 2014

With the football World Cup kicking off in Brazil this summer, the South American country will be faced with the possible influx of the world’s finest yachts and superyachts hoping to be a part of the occasion.

Superyacht owners may well be tempted by the first World Cup in Brazil since 1950, and with nations represented including Russia, Australia, USA and South Korea, it is possible that Brazil could be seeing some of the world’s richest superyacht owners and their luxury yachts.

Entrepreneurs such as Roman Abramovich, who was in South Africa for the 2010 World Cup, could be attending to cheer on their national teams or merely experience the excitement and atmosphere. Though an extreme example, it begs the question; could Brazil facilitate a large influx of superyachts during the illustrious tournament?

Locations for the football include some of the major coastal cities in Brazil, such as Sao Paolo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Fortaleza. There are marinas located in all of these locations, which are able to facilitate an abundance of smaller yachts, as well as a number of larger yachts.

BR Marinas, one of Brazil’s largest marina groups, has multiple marinas all equipped to support berths for yachts and superyachts. The group has three marinas located relatively close to Rio de Janeiro, which is one of the cities hosting World Cup games, including the final, which will be held on 13th July.

Klaus Peters of BR Marinas explained to Yachting Pages, “We have multiple options for visiting yachts and can offer a full range of services during their stay. We can provide a similar level of facilities and services to what the yachts may expect in the Med or USA. Our marinas are on the south coast of Brazil, near to both Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro – which will both be hosting matches”.

Both Marina Piratas and Marina Verolme, share hundreds of dry and wet berths, some of which can accommodate yachts of up to 45M. Marina Bracuhy also offers over 200 berths for yachts of up to nearly 30M. Among all three marinas are restaurants, bars, shops, hotels, and other luxury yacht services. Facilities at the marinas also include electricity, fresh water, Wi-Fi, fuel, provisioning and repair services.

Another option is Marina da Glória, which is located in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, and can provide berths for larger yachts with a range of services and facilities.

Bahia Marina is one of the marinas ideally located for yachts visiting Salvador, and can offer a berthing area of 176 square metres with 400 wet berths and a host of services and facilities including travel lifts, surveillance, parts and supplies.

Porto Marina Asturias in Santos, Sao Paolo has over 72,000 m² of total area and has capacity for up to 500 boats. It also has a great range of facilities and holds an ideal location which is relatively close to the city itself.

Beyond marinas, there are many emerging companies which can help Brazil cope with any possible influx of superyachts, a prime example being Brazil Yacht Services; a full yacht service and support company, able to help out all visiting yachts with almost any service they may require. Similar to the yacht agents seen in the Mediterranean, Brazil Yacht Services can provide bunkering, visas, parts, berth bookings and more, enabling Brazil to facilitate yachts on a similar level to other yachting hotpots.

Though the companies and marinas are not as extensive and numerous as those in the Mediterranean, Brazil is able to cope with a large number of yachts and superyachts, and will surely see an increased number during the World Cup Finals.
