British tender brand launches first hydroplane superyacht tender

The British tender builder Alpha Centauri has announced the launch of its first prototype hydroplane tender, designed to combine a superyacht tender, with a hydroplaning raceboat.

The 8.3m vessel can be used as either a superyacht toy or super-fast tender, with seating available for up to four passengers, who enter via a lifting canopy.

The tender is built from a stainless steel frame and lightweight composite superstructure, with a total displacement of 1,650kgs.

The interior features four leather-lined racing style bucket seats, bright red detailing, a Raymarine navigation system, and a Rockford-Fosgate speaker system. Optional extras include air conditioning, heating and a range of colourful hull finishes.

In a quote from Boat International, Christ Phillips from Alpha Centauri said of the tender: “It’s impractical, woefully inefficient and terrifying”. However he did also state that hydroplane technology would eventually become commonplace in superyacht tender builds.

The tender is powered by a 750hp Chevrolet V8 engine, and two-stage Scott jet-drive. The top speed is an impressive 60 knots, which will make it one of the fastest superyacht tenders in the world.
