Burgess breaks superyacht sales record in 2012

Despite continuing difficulties in the global economy, Burgess, a leading brokerage firm, specialising in yacht sales, construction, charter and management has completed another successful trading year, ending 2012 with its fourth consecutive rise in sales since 2009.

With a total asking price of sales achieved reaching close to half a billion Euros, this record performance was greater than any other brokerage firm globally in the year, according to Burgess.

Vessels sold by Burgess in 2012 averaged a fraction under 50 metres in length with an average asking price of around 21 million Euros.  Burgess continues to sell the majority of yachts over 55 metres worldwide, last year accounting for almost 60% of the market and in many cases representing both buyer and seller.  The specialist focus of OceanStyle by Burgess ensured a robust performance in the 35-45 metre sector also.

2012 proved to be a record year for Burgess in new construction. The company’s Technical Consultancy Services division completed the delivery of a 96m custom project, the largest yacht ever to be built in the UK, in addition to signing a 110m new-build motor yacht at Oceanco, the largest yacht ever to be commissioned in Holland.

Jonathan Beckett, CEO noted, “The true test of a brokerage firm is how it performs for both buyers and sellers when conditions are difficult.  Burgess has been quick to respond to the realities of the adjusted marketplace. While inventory is growing, buyers remain hesitant, putting pressure on prices across all size categories.

“It is testament to the talents and hard work of our experienced professionals and the strong relationships they have built with clients over many years that Burgess is able to report a record year in 2012.”
