The Canary Islands is proving to be a popular yachting location this season, with many superyachts choosing the Spanish group of islands as a stop-off point while on their way to the Caribbean, according to Canary Islands yacht agent, Alfaship Shipping Agency.
With the close of the Monaco Yacht Show last week signalling the end of the Mediterranean yachting season, many yachts have been present in the Canary Islands in order to stock up on fuel and provisions.
Iryna Krasnikava of Alfaship commented, “It’s that time of the year where the superyachts are heading to the Caribbean and most of them will stop in the Canary Islands for fuel bunkering and provisions. That was the case last week when four superyachts of 55m, 47m, 65m and 49m stopped in Tenerife and we served them.
“The most popular service is definitely the fuel bunkering, as you know, fuel in Spain is much cheaper than in other countries like France, but it’s especially cheaper in the Canary Islands because of the tax-free status.”
However, as well as the necessities of fuel and supplies, The Canary Islands also offers various attractions and activities for the guests and owners while the vessels are visiting.
Iryna also commented, “The owners and charter guests are pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the touristic pleases, and most of the time they will stay for four or five days to enjoy the amazing weather, ride bikes through the coast of the ‘Playa de las Americas’ and hire busses to do exclusive tours. We regularly arrange everything related to these tours and expeditions.
“In the meantime, the captain can take advantage of the two international airports to change the crew, stock up on provisions, as well as organise any engineering supplies or maintenance and repair services.”
