It has been confirmed that the classic 42-metre (138-foot) 1972 Benetti superyacht Lalibela – badly damaged in October 2018 by a fire at Port Camille Rayon in Golfe Juan – has since been scrapped in Turkey.
Left partially submerged and severely damaged after the fire last year, what remained was towed away from Golfe Juan in February 2019, allegedly to Italy, though it has since been spotted at a ship recycling facility in Aliaga, Turkey, where scrapping was completed in April.
Originally built for a well-known German industrialist who sold her when he took delivery of the 60-metre (197-foot) Feadship-built Diana II (since renamed Sanoo), Lalibela was first named Diana I and was the third-largest yacht built by Benetti in the 70s.
