Cobb’s Quay open weekend draws in the crowds

Cobb’s Quay Marina was brimming with activity at the weekend as it welcomed local residents, boating enthusiasts and MDL berth holders and their families to its open weekend event.

Taking place on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May, the open weekend was held in conjunction with the RYA’s Active Marina Programme and offered a jam-packed line-up of events and activities. With so much on offer, visitors were kept entertained for hours in the spring sunshine from the likes of hula hoop workshops, RIB simulator rides, remote control boat races, a climbing wall and a fire juggling show, while a local choir provided the soundtrack to the bustling event.

Powerboat Training UK provided training sessions, which included man overboard rescue scenarios and correct flare procedure, while the RNLI provided onshore demonstrations covering sea safety, lifejacket checks and boat maintenance. Poole Boat Hire was also on hand offering boat trips and boat rentals throughout the weekend.

Paul Glatzel of Powerboat Training UK commented, “What a great weekend for berth holders, tenants and of course potential boaters who visited the event. There were lots of things to do for all ages - Cobb’s Quay was buzzing with activity and people enjoying themselves in the sun.”

The marina also hosted the Clipper Marine Used Boat Show, allowing visitors to browse a range of new and used boats on sale both ashore and afloat.

Peter Keats from Clipper Marine said, “The Cobb’s Quay activity weekend was a great event; we’ve already agreed a couple of sales.  Cobb’s Quay has a unique family atmosphere that extends to the onsite businesses and berth holders alike; the activity weekend provides the perfect setting for us all to meet up in an enjoyable and relaxed setting.”

The crowds took full advantage of the warm, sunny weather with many paying a visit to Cobb’s Yacht Club Bar & Restaurant. Julia Sweatman, owner of Cobb’s Yacht Club commented, “We were very pleased with the open weekend. We received lots of compliments about our newly refurbished bar and lots of customers enjoyed our new outside decking area overlooking all the boats. At one stage there was only standing room in the garden as it was so busy! Without doubt, though, the highlight of the weekend was the 55-strong Just Sing Choir. Their song selection and beautiful voices were very moving and enjoyed by all!”

Neil Salter, General Manager at Cobb’s Quay added, “We’re thrilled with the turnout the marina has seen over the weekend. It was brilliant to be able to showcase Cobb’s Quay and the facilities and services available.  The weather was glorious which helped put all our visitors in fantastic spirits to enjoy the many activities on offer, but it was great to see the interest not only in the family activities and the boats on sale but also in the safety aspects of boating from training services and the RNLI.”
