Columbus Yachts building Oceanic 70m on spec

Italian yacht builder, Columbus Yachts has announced that its Columbus Oceanic 70m superyacht is being built on spec, with a hybrid propulsion system.

Part of the Palumbo Group, Columbus revealed the Oceanic’s design at the 2014 Monaco Yacht Show, and the build process began shortly afterwards.

Developed in collaboration with Studio Vafiadis, and with naval architecture from Hydro Tec, she joins Columbus’ varied portfolio, which includes the Classic, Explorer and Sport Hybrid superyacht series.

Similarly to Columbus' award-winning 40m hybrid superyacht, Elenora III, the Oceanic 70m utilises a hybrid propulsion system, giving her a 5,000nm maximum cruising range at 11 knots, and a top speed of 18 knots. She sports a modern silhouette with flowing lines.

Giuseppe Palumbo, CEO of Palumbo Group said, “The Columbus Oceanic 70m will represent an additional line, a forward-oriented, fresh and dynamic, cutting-edge stylistic approach to propose to new clients. [She] is designed to have the hybrid propulsion option, among many other environmentally friendly features.”

She will have an impressive beach club and spa on her lower aft deck, providing direct access to the water via a large swim platform, as well as a large swimming pool on her foredeck.

Guests will be accommodated across six cabins, including a master suite forward on the main deck, and a VIP stateroom on the upper deck that is able to double up as a smaller master cabin.
