Construction commences on solar-powered Silent 79

Construction work has begun on the first hull in Silent Yachts’ new Silent 79 Cruiser series.

Spanning 24 metres (79 feet), the catamaran will be completely powered by solar energy captured by extensive flybridge panelling. She is being built by Consorzio Navale in Marotta, Italy, and is scheduled for delivery in March 2020.

Silent Yachts has confirmed that construction has also commenced on four additional models, including a 21-metre (69-foot) 70 “E-Power” catamaran.

The Silent 79 Cruiser concept was designed by Michael Köhler and features naval architecture by Enrique Castilla of Insenaval. Her exterior and interior design comes courtesy of Marco Casali of design studio Too Design.

Boasting a beam that measures 10.95 metres, she will be powered by two electric 80 kW engines with a battery capacity of 200kWh.

The yacht will be entirely solar powered, which allows for an unlimited cruising range as well as noise and fume-free navigation. The solar panels adorn the catamaran’s flybridge – providing its power – and come with a 25-year warranty, while the battery banks come with a 10-year warranty.

The 79 model offers a range of a different layouts and can accommodate a maximum of 10 guests across five cabins. These can comprise either a double bed or two singles, depending on preference. The owner’s front cabin has an en-suite and walk-in office which boasts a desk, locker storage and large mirror.

Silent Yachts’ 16.7-metre (55-foot) 55 model will be on display at the Cannes Yachting Festival.
