Construction underway on new superyacht berths at Gold Coast City Marina

Construction has begun on additional large berths at Gold Coast City Marina and Shipyard in Coomera, Australia, creating new berths for superyachts and large vessels in Queensland.

The project, valued at $1 million AUD, will create eight new marina ‘work berths’ for 65m vessels by the middle of March 2017. Major dredging works are also planned for improved navigation of the Coomera River.

The marina is already busy with refit and maintenance projects, with a number of superyachts currently undergoing major maintenance and upgrades at the facility – the largest of these being 40m LOA.

Steve Sammes, chief operating officer of Gold Coast City Marina said, “The larger berth will allow for dry machinery, such as forklifts and other vehicles to get right on to the docks. This will be great for bigger boats which need pallets and other large goods to be loaded on to them.

“We’re looking forward to a very good year and we are excited about the momentum of the dredging programme by the Gold Coast Waterways Authority (GCWA). We are also looking forward to the start of construction of the Coomera Dredged Sediment Management Facility (CRDSMF), which is really positive news for the boating fraternity.”

The new dredging facility will offer cost-effective and environmentally sound disposal of sediment dredged from the upper reaches of the Coomera River, allowing for safe access and navigation of the river for larger vessels, and further supporting the neighbouring marine businesses of the Coomera Marine Precinct.
