CRN launches Cloud 9 custom-build superyacht

CRN has announced the launch of 74m custom superyacht Cloud 9 in Ancona on Saturday, 21st January. Cloud 9 is described in a statement by CRN as a “spectacular and powerful combination of engineering expertise and ground-breaking design.”

She was built in collaboration with Zuccon International Project, who took on the exterior design, and Winch Design, who created the exterior guest areas, livery, interior decoration and owner’s supply.

Andrew Winch of Winch design commented, “It has been a great pleasure to work with Zuccon. I have always admired Mr Zuccon’s exterior designs and to partner with him and CRN for this project has been very exciting. We have previously designed a 60m motor yacht for these clients with whom I have a very close friendship, which makes this project particularly enjoyable. It is a pleasure to work with them again and I am appreciative of their trust and confidence.”

The design of Cloud 9, according to CRN, is said to demonstrate an “optimised balance” between interior and exterior spaces, offering a high degree of comfort and free flowing layout. Cloud 9 features “clean lines enhanced by subtle superstructural design details” and “elegant aesthetics.”

She spans five decks and includes a sub deck, able to accommodate up to 16 guests (12 when chartering), across a master suite, VIP suite and six guest cabins. There is also room for up to 22 crew members in 13 cabins, plus berths for four staff in two cabins.

Standout features on board Cloud 9 include a private deck forward of the master suite, and a large beach club which has an extended platform at sea level to encourage alfresco dining. Cloud 9 is powered by two Caterpillar 3516C 2,000kW @1600rpm engines, able to reach a top speed of 16.5 knots and cruising speed of 15 knots.

Burgess Technical Services was appointed owner’s representatives on Cloud 9, and Naval Architect Ed Beckett remarked that the benchmark for quality had been set high on Cloud 9, “not only in terms of immediate appearance to her owners and guests, but also from the perspective of seakeeping and comfort, the arrangement of engineering systems, the quality of the paintwork and attention to detail throughout whether visible or invisible.”

Winch also added, “The clients’ knowledge, along with that of Captain Colin Boyle’s, has been exceptional throughout the design process.

“Burgess brought a wealth of technological capability and understanding, resulting in a yacht that is not only beautifully designed, but also exceptionally well built for purpose.”
