Da Gama Expands Crew Training Service

Following a successful year of working with a number of new build and operational yachts Da Gama Limited has continued its expansion of on board Crew Training provided by their professional mariners.

Created to work with operational vessels and those emerging from build or refit as a means of enhancing the skills and abilities of the crew, creating and examining the on board fire fighting procedures, running various exercises and drills and providing a full report to the Captain and Management Company, with each package is personally tailored to the vessel.

Steve Monk of Da Gama said, “Our training teams have years of professional experience at sea in a variety of vessels and as such, possess the knowledge and training necessary to build the skills of those on board to make the crew a more competent and capable team.” He went on to say, “Members of our training team are individually picked because of their knowledge of the industry and their professionalism in the instruction of fire safety.  Every vessel is unique and as such the programmes are tailored to the requirements of the Captain to give them confidence in knowing they have the most competently trained crew using their equipment on their vessel.”

De Gama have worked on vessels between 50 to 90 metres in length and with crew numbers  from single digits to over 30, they are setting the standard within the industry for the enhancement of crew and guest safety.

In addition and aware of the new requirements under the Manila amends to STCW which came into effect on 1 January 2012, Da Gama offer an on board Bridge Resource Management programme to work with the officers and deck team in promoting their skills in maintaining the navigational safety of the vessel.
