Former England and Manchester United star David Beckham has spent almost £5 million (c. €5.86 million) on a new superyacht that he helped design, according to tabloid reports.
The 46-year-old is thought to have bought a 30-metre (100-foot) Ferretti following a visit to the Italian shipyard earlier in the year. Sources say he was inspired to invest in the yacht following maritime getaways with Sir Elton John and his husband David Furnish.
It is understood that Beckham hopes to make his maiden voyage on the vessel with his family in the New Year, cruising around the Florida Keys.
The superyacht is having final touches applied but is expected to be ready within weeks.
Meanwhile, Beckham is already known to own a 27-metre (89-foot) Horizon E88, developed by Taiwanese yard Horizon Yachts.
