Derecktor wins vote to build Fort Pierce large yacht facility

Florida-based shipyard Derecktor has been chosen to build and manage a Fort Pierce large yacht facility by a unanimous vote, fending off competition from Fort Pierce Yacht and Ship.

James Brewer, business development with Derecktor of Florida, confirmed the announcement after a final meeting with St. Lucie County commissioners on 14th November.

The shipyard will now develop the facility in the port 40 miles north of West Palm Beach and about 100 miles north of Fort Lauderdale.

St. Lucie County commissioners unanimously held their votes on 2nd October in what was scheduled to be a final decision between the two bids, but all five commissioners requested more time to ask further questions.

Speaking before the 2nd October meeting, Derecktor president and chairman of the board Paul Derecktor said, “This is a great opportunity; we could build something here.

“We have more experience than anyone in the country – sailing yachts and motor yachts, we have worked on them all, all over the world. It’s what we do and have done for 70 years. We are uniquely qualified.”
