Doyle Sails has announced a new partnership with Sail to Shelter, and will now upcycle retired sails by converting them into shade and shelter for humanitarian aid organisations.

As a not-for-profit organization headed by Angela Abshier, Sail to Shelter aims to keep sails out of landfill and support humanitarian aid organisations around the world with basic shade and shelter solutions.

Most elite racing sails have a very short life with some not sailing more than a dozen times. These sailors race to win, meaning that the equipment has to be in perfect condition every time. With custom designs specific to each yacht, there isn’t a secondary market.

With donations and support from the Doyle Sails loft network, Sail to Shelter has worked to become the solution. Not only is it upcycling, but the Sail to Shelter model uses sails and resources from the closest geographical point to the crises as possible.
