Yachting Pages has put several of the leading safety cases (and other associated products) to the test. The objective: to ascertain how each product performs and determine which one is best equipped to safely contain a lithium battery-induced fire.
As Dubai Harbour Marina prepares for its full opening, the first yachts have already arrived. Located between Bluewaters Island and Palm Jumeirah and built on reclaimed land out at sea, the marina covers an area of 20 million square feet (1.85 million square metres).
It will include retail stores, restaurants, hotels and residential areas while catering for yachts up to 160 metres (525 feet) in length across 1,100 berths.
Selcuk Balci, managing director at D-Marin Dubai and Dubai Harbour’s marina operator, said, “The marina will strengthen Dubai’s status as a modern maritime hub for yacht owners and captains to maritime businesses in need of a strategic logistics location. We are looking forward to operating the largest leisure maritime destination in the Middle East.”
The first two boats calling in were a Majesty 120 and an Oryx 379, built by UAE-based yacht manufacturer, Gulf Craft.
Abeer Alshaali, CEO at Gulf Craft, said, “Our experience of berthing our recently launched superyacht Majesty 120 and Oryx 379 sport cruiser in the marina reinforced our confidence that this will be an exceptional addition to the Emirates’ waterfront. Dubai Harbour will lead the way for greater economic growth both in tourism and yachting as Dubai adds boat enthusiasts to the ever-growing list of visitors.”
When finished, the Harbour Marina will also boast the Dubai Lighthouse, which will feature a luxury hotel and an observation deck that offers 360-degree views.
