Hakvoort Shipyard in the Netherlands has announced the successful launch of its largest project to date – the 63.7-metre (209-foot) M/Y Scout. Designed by H2 Yacht Design, the new flagship emerged from its shed in Monnickendam, north Holland over the weekend.
Measuring just three metres larger than M/Y Just J’s, delivered in 2016, the new project is the Dutch shipyard’s largest superyacht build to date.
Previously known as YN249, M/Y Scout saw a change of ownership early on in the build process, in cooperation with Fraser Yachts. As a result, the shipyard described the project as taking, “a complete change in direction for the steel-and-aluminium explorer yacht.”
Reportedly, the H2 Yacht Design team worked closely with its owner to match their tastes and requirements. This was done alongside Diana Yacht Design, who worked on the yacht’s naval architecture.
Jonny Horsfield of H2 Yacht Design, commented, “Scout has been an exciting project for the H2 Yacht Design and Hakvoort teams.
“The owner’s brief called for a rugged explorer style yacht, intended to look like a conversion from a commercial vessel. We gave her crisp, distinctive lines and integrated forward sloping windows. We placed the tenders on the bow, leaving them exposed to add to the utilitarian aesthetic.”
“There is a helideck and a forward observation lounge in addition to an expansive sun deck,” he continues. “It allows unobstructed views fore and aft, which will be one of the focal points of living onboard. The whole design process was centred around a romantic idea of original ocean exploration and Scout’s design – inside and out – really reflects that. She’s a fantastically unique vessel.”
Upon delivery in spring 2019, Scout will become the largest yacht the shipyard has built. According to The Superyacht Intelligence Agency, Hakvoort also has another two yachts under construction: 61-metre (200-foot) Project Sydney and 45.2-metre (148-foot) Project Adur.
