e3 Systems reports on future of technology for yachts seminar

e3 Systems hosted a seminar just before the beginning of the Antibes Yacht Show last week at the Automobile Club de Monaco. The keynote presentation was given by Dr. Waguih Ishak from Corning Glass who wowed the audience with Corning’s vision of how our lives will shortly be transformed and governed by interactive glass.

Dr Ishak also gave a fascinating insight into how research and development is conducted in Silicon Valley, home to Corning and many other high tech companies. The region acts as an incubator for much of the technology we now live with and also for that of the future.

Delegates included yacht designers, representatives from shipyards, yacht fleet managers, technical managers, captains and ETOS. Other complementary presentations were given by speakers from Global IP, Van Berge Henegouwen, Monaco Telecom and e3 Systems.

The emphasis was firmly on “Future Technology for Yachts” and there was much discussion on the needs of today’s “connected” society and how this impacts upon life aboard a yacht – both for owners and crew. There was also a lot of debate about the fast changing nature of communications and entertainment systems on-board.

The Automobile Club proved an outstanding venue. Delegates were given the perfect opportunity to continue discussions and network with colleagues from other areas of the industry over aperitifs served in the garden, followed by lunch in the Members’ Dining Room. The dress code for gentlemen in the Club was “smart” so deck shoes and polo shirts were left on board and jackets and ties were dusted off and given an airing.

Reaction from the delegates was very positive as Fabien Roché, of International Yacht Collection explained, "I thoroughly enjoyed the seminar which was very informative. The venue (and food) was great and I look forward to joining you for the next event."

Captain Marcel Busse said, “It truly has given me an insight into the future of this industry. Without this type of event, to gain knowledge about the future, we would seriously need to keep up by reading and networking constantly, which, let’s be frank, many of us don’t have the time for!.”

Michel Dol, from Amels commented, “The subjects in the Seminar Future Technology for Yachts were indeed interesting and enjoyable. The venue for the Seminar was excellent and the catering was more than good.”

e3 Systems plan to make this an annual event to showcase technology of the future.
