Endeavour Quay welcomes back regulars for refit

Endeavour Quay in Gosport, UK welcomes back two of its regular visitors for their annual refits this winter. Endeavour Quay provides the ideal refit base with undercover storage, large travel hoist, on site marine services and much more. These amenities provide just some of the reasons Alex Thomson’s Open 60 racing yacht and sail training vessel the Tall Ship Royalist have both returned to the boatyard for work. These two vessels perfectly represent the vast and varied range of facilities and capabilities the historic site offers.

The T.S. Royalist, a 110 tonne, 30m long, two masted sailing Brig, owned by the MMSC and used for training sea cadets, has recently been re-launched following a period ashore for the annual Lloyds’ survey and engineering refit carried out by Burgess Marine. She has just completed the post refit sea trials.

Alex Thomson’s Farr designed 20m race yacht on which he completed last year’s Vendee Globe race is now undercover in one of the 40m boat sheds at Endeavour Quay. The boat is based at the yard for a refit which will include a re-spray and modification work.

Endeavour Quay is based on the historic Camper & Nicholson’s boatyard site in Gosport, on the western side of Portsmouth Harbour. Only 500m from the sailing grounds of The Solent, the yard has no air draft restrictions and deep water 24/7 making it ideal for vessels up to 40m. On-site facilities include:

  • 180 tonne travel hoist
  • 35 tonne crane
  • 40m boat sheds
  • 90m of waiting pontoons
  • Overhead gantry crane
  • On-site marine service providers
  • Open Yard Policy
  • Project Management offices

All of these combined provide the ideal refit space for power and sail vessels up to 40m or 180 tonnes. The Open Yard Policy also enables skippers and owners to employ their own contractors with no additional fees or commission charges, and manage the refit from their own office in the yard.
