CORRECTION - Explorer superyacht stands empty in Cape Town

Lionel Pradines, general manager at MW Marine, which represents Enigma XK contacted Yachting Pages to explain that this news story was inaccuratly reported by Times Live. The explorer yacht is in perfect condition and is currently being chartered.

Enigma XK, one of the world’s most exclusive explorer yachts, has been reported today to have been left standing in Port of Cape Town for some five months, pending investigation into suspected engine problems. [This has since been proved inaccurate.]

Timeslive.co.za reported the news, as the 71m-explorer vessel was stood empty at the V&A Waterfront recently.

Listed as Boat International’s 16th top explorer yacht, and one of CNN’s most exclusive yacht charters in the world, Enigma XK has made a series of Antarctic expeditions since her refit in La Rochelle, France.

She was built in 1988 as Norna, a Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency patrol vessel, where she spent her time patrolling the waters of the North Atlantic for illegal fishing activities. She was then decommissioned in 2010 and converted by the Atlantic Refit Centre into a luxury explorer yacht with the help of designer Philippe Briand.

Now on board she is reported to have a wealth of luxury features and amenities, including a helipad, 360-degree glass saloon, movie theatre, Jacuzzi, Jet Skis and her own Jeep for shore-side excursions. Due to her outstanding condition, many of her original features remained throughout the refit, including her funnel.

As a full-service explorer yacht, she is offered for fishing, swimming and water sports charters in Antarctic waters via Eyos Expeditions.

She accommodates 11 guests and 19 crewmembers on board, and cruises at 11 knots, with a top speed of 18 knots and a range of 12,000nm.
