Federico Fiorentino and Van Oossanen Naval Architecture join forces

Following the unveiling of the designs for ‘The Belafonte’, a 50m superyacht concept from yacht designer, Federico Fiorentino towards the end of 2014, the Milan design studio has announced a collaboration with Van Oossanen Naval Architects. 

The Belafonte is a full aluminium superyacht with bold and contemporary lines, which blend classic elegance with modern design. Finished in bronze, she has contrasting classic mahogany cap rails and polished steel detailing to balance and offset her aggressiveness. 

Once complete, The Belafonte will offer performance improvements of up to 30 percent in displacement speed ranges, and up to 20 percent in semi-displacement speed ranges, boasting a top speed of up to 30 knots. Her patented Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) will allow her to offer significant fuel savings at lower speeds also, turning her into a transatlantic vessel at 13 knots, and pushing her towards the transpacific barrier at 9 knots. 

Commenting on the collaboration with Van Oossanen Naval Architects, Fiorentino said, “As the yacht was perfectly suited to be coupled with the revolutionary Fast Displacement Hull, Mr Perry van Oossanen invested time and resources in a preliminary study on The Belafonte. This in turn paved the way for collaboration. 

“This is a significant step forward for The Belafonte project, and for what may be the first of other collaborations between Van Oossanen Naval Architecture and Federico Fiorentino design firm.” 

The Belafonte accommodates 10 guests across her five cabin layout. At 84 square metres, the owner’s suite is the largest, featuring a folding balcony, two walk-in closets and two bathrooms. The main deck interior is home to the formal saloon and dining area, with a swimming pool, hot tub, lounge and sunbathing area on the exterior deck. The semi-exposed upper deck houses a sky lounge and shaded bar.
