Fire breaks out on board 124m motor yacht Katara

Reports have emerged that a fire recently broke out aboard the 124m M/Y Katara while she was moored at Porto Montenegro in Tivat.

Local publication Vijesti reported that the superyacht, which is owned by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa, caught fire at 11:30am on Tuesday 6th September when a fire started in the engine room. This was believed to have originated from the main electricity panel.

Emergency crews were immediately deployed to extinguish the fire, including four vehicles and 15 fire fighters, who managed to get the flames under control in around 15 minutes.

The Lurssen superyacht was built in 2010 as Project Crystal, and is now one of the world’s largest yachts. Not much is known about her interior, but it is speculated that she has a main deck saloon with a ceiling height of two decks.
