First Amels Limited Edition 188 launched

The Dutch shipyard Amels has launched the first hull in the Limited Editions 188 series.

Measuring 57m, the vessel is the eighth design of this range, and was first introduced at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show. She features exterior styling by Tim Heywood, and interiors by Reymond Langton design.

While details are still limited on the 188, reports state that she has a steel hull supporting an aluminium superstructure. She will be the first Limited Editions superyacht to be hybrid-powered, and will feature a hybrid switchboard and waste heat recovery system, both developed by Amels. According to reports, the yard says this system could provide a €150,000 return on investment over the next three years.

Standout design features pointed out by Tim Heywood include a flying buttress, to be used as an architectural feature on the yacht.

Pascale Reymond of Reymond Langton Design also said, “It’s challenging, because we’re used to designing for individuals. We have to look at design in different ways when designing for a [semi-custom] product.”

Accommodation is available for 12 guests in six cabins; these include an owner’s cabin, VIP cabin, two doubles and two twins. Crew quarters are then able to accommodate up to 13 staff.

The 188 will be able to reach a top speed of 15.5 knots, with a transatlantic cruising range of 4,500nm when cruising at 13 knots.

The 188 is currently due to be delivered before the end of 2018.
