Floating Life opens exciting contest for young designers

Swiss yacht charter and management company Floating Life has announced the opening of a division for young designers in order to introduce them to the nautical world.

Once the design contest has been launched, the winner will present a model of their project.

“We are now in a market that has become static, where the same value is not given to those that are research and the development of innovation and ingenuity; and to innovate a rigorous and traditional sector, such as the nautical one, we need brilliant minds typical of young people, who are able to imagine with does not exist yet,” said Andrea Pezzini, director and co-founder of Floating Life.

“We are already in contact with some Italian universities, which have in their educational courses of study and master, both naval engineering and yacht design, to explain to future designers and engineers, who will take over the different areas of this sector, that our new project; aimed at facing the future of boating with an original approach, connecting our expertise with the new proposals that young people will bring,” he added.

To begin this new division, Floating Life has opted to launch the ‘Think Innovative’ contest for young students, which consists of drawing a boat that has an innovative charge in terms of solutions and lines. The winner will see their project realized through a scale model, which will be exhibited during the Monaco Yacht Show 2020 at the company’s stand.

According to Floating Life, the aim of Think Innovative is to identify original ideas that can improve one or more parts or stages of development of the yacht, both from a technical perspective and from that of design and development. Its team will review all proposals and select the most interesting ones, with the most innovative going on to be developed and engineered in house.

The project must adhere to the following guidelines:

Outdoors: Development of the hull in its shapes and in its hydrodynamics. Innovation of the boat design, both for the superstructure and the upper works.

Interiors: Diversifying the use of interior spaces and developing furnishings with unconventional materials and shapes.

The winner will be announced on 30^th April 2020.
