French businesses launch petition against new French anchoring regulations on Posidonia seagrass

A group of local French businesses have launched a petition against the new French anchoring regulations around Posidonia seagrass in the French Riviera. It comes after the French government recently passed a law that stops superyachts over 24 metres (78 feet) anchoring in certain areas in the Mediterranean where Posidonia seagrass is present.

French yachting association SOS Navigation highlights the point that there are many other factors that contribute to Posidonia damage, for example coastal development, chemical contaminants, trawling and aquaculture, and it is therefore unfair that the yachting industry alone has been targeted.

The aim of the petition is not to question the importance of Posidonia nor to hide the impact anchorage has on Posidonia. However, it aims to encourage Maritime Affairs to conduct a proper survey weighing the impact on yachting versus other exterior aggressions.
