US TV network Bravo confirmed Below Deck Down Under was on its way earlier this year, with unofficial reports claiming that filming had commenced in Australia in May.
Since the confirmation of the new title, further information from Bravo had been scarce. But in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Noah Samton, senior vice president of current production for Bravo, divulged what viewers can expect from Down Under.
“Not only is it down under in terms of being in Australia, but a lot of the show is literally being filmed underneath the water in the sea paradise that is the Great Barrier Reef,” he said.
“There’s a lot of diving, scuba diving, snorkelling spear fishing and the cast actually gets involved in a lot of the diving excursions.”
While no official details about the series or superyacht being featured have been confirmed, So Dramatic! podcast previously reported that TV production staff and security were spotted at the dock in Airlie Beach in late May – with Thalassa being the host superyacht for the debut season.
Since the exclusive revelation from So Dramatic!, social media users in Australia have deducted that a local influencer is among one of the charter guests. Some Reddit users have also speculated who the cast members might be, with some suggesting the social media posts of past Below Deck favourites seem to indicate they are currently residing in Australia. It is widely believed that Aesha Scott will be among the cast, having featured in Below Deck Mediterranean seasons four and five.
Below Deck Down Under will not be airing on Bravo, however. It will instead be streaming on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s new service.
Below Deck Down Under is one of two new Below Deck series announced by Bravo this year, alongside Below Deck Adventure. Upon launch, they will join the original Below Deck, Below Deck Mediterranean and Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
While not officially confirmed as of yet, it seems likely that Below Deck Down Under will debut in 2022. It emerged in January 2022 that filming for season two is set to begin in April, with producers on the hunt for 'adventurous' new guests.
