FUCHS launches intelligent Man-Riding Hook for safe tender deployment

FUCHS Fördertechnik AG has announced the launch of a new intelligent hook system with DNV GL Type Approval, to optimise the launching of tenders from the tender garage.

As the only stainless-steel system worldwide approved for launching manned tenders, the Man-Riding Hook allows tenders to be moved and deployed more safely inside the garage. A compact design and integrated hook weight saves valuable headroom height in the tender garage, making it much smaller than the usual wire weights.

Peter Pfabe, a member of the executive board at FUCHS, explained, “The integrated hook weight for safe crane operation is more compact than the usual wire weights. Every centimetre that can be saved in height is valuable in the day-to-day handling of tenders, also to enable them to be moved safely inside the boat garages aboard the yacht.”

In a recent release, FUCHS explained that the hook is optimised for use aboard FUCHS cranes, as well as being offered for existing crane systems already on board.

The Man-Riding Hook is currently available in three sizes, with the largest capable of handling a maximum load of 4,000 kilograms or 8,818 pounds. A larger version of the hook, capable of handling loads up to 8,000kg (17,636lbs) will be available in the second half of this year.

Further notable features of the hook include a swivel hook for fibre and wire ropes; self-locking once the hook is loaded; easy and ergonomic unlocking; and 6x SWL safety factor.

A prototype of the hook was first displayed at the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METSTRADE) in November 2017.

Speaking to Yachting Pages, Pfabe reported that 15 hooks have already been installed on superyachts with FUCHS cranes on board, with the roll out set to continue for all cranes on production and order. He shared that orders for replacement hooks have also been received from well-known superyachts for cranes from other manufacturers.
