Genoa International Boat Show to go ahead in September

An official press conference was held on 26^th July to announce the 61^st edition of the Genoa International Boat Show (Salone Nautico di Genova) to the press and spectators worldwide. The boat show is due to take place from 16^th to 21^st September 2021 in Genoa.

The 61^st Genoa International Boat Show is set to mirror a market for which current predictions, as presented by the Italian Marine Industry Association’s market analysis department, confirm nothing but positive and sustained growth. The fact that this edition is already sold out in terms of national and international exhibitors is in part due to the authority and credibility achieved by the event’s organisers following the tremendous success of the show’s 60^th edition last year; the only industry event in Europe to take place in person and in full compliance with the highest standards of health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The layout of this year’s 61^st Genoa International Boat Show will mirror that of the more recent editions following the continued success of a multi-specialised format. It will spread across more than 200,000 square metres on land and sea, 85% of which is entirely outdoors, and it prepares to host over 1,000 boats. Brands on display this year will also be close to 1,000. Confirmed exhibitors will include leading shipyards on both the national and global stage who took part in last year’s edition, featuring the highly anticipated return of numerous household names. Furthermore, this year exhibitors will be greeted by a profoundly different layout, transformed by the ongoing development of a brand-new Levante waterfront. The project began in October 2020 and is due for completion in 2023, creating 200 new berths and a completely redeveloped indoor sporting arena.

The waterfront redevelopment project, designed and donated to the Genoa Municipality, the Liguria Region and the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority by renowned architect Renzo Piano, will see zero-emission buildings, a vast park of hallmark Mediterranean trees and a masterplan of promenades and docking areas, transporting the Genoa Boat Show’s waterfront into a world-class location for a world-class event.

The effects of such a revolutionary reimagining of one of Europe’s yachting capitals can already be seen, starting with the immediate benefit of removing the promenade wall between piers C and E. This has redefined the heart of the Genoa Boat Show’s layout, allowing for a single pier without interrupting the flow between Pavilion B and the new dock. The real winner of this transformation is its surface area, which has increased by 14%. Water surface has also increased by 19% thanks to a brand-new docking area for boats measuring up to 15 metres (49 feet), combined with the implementation of equally new piers across the other docks.

Alessandro Campagna, commercial director of I Saloni Nautici, said, “The 61^st Genoa International Boat Show will only gain ground, in fact, with the current redevelopment for the brand-new waterfront, we will gain a docking area at the centre of the Boat Show, which will allow for new spaces and paths for visitors, with more room to breathe. On land there will be 14% more floor space while the new dock will provide 19% more water surface. We will be using 200,000 square metres, 85% of which will be completely outdoors, to house over 1,000 boats representing almost 1,000 brands.”

The 61^st edition of the Genoa International Boat Show has had its health and safety protocols approved on behalf of Italy’s National Technical Scientific Committee.
