GMC director voted onto ISS board

The International Superyacht Society (ISS) board of directors have announced, the unanimous appointment of GMC director, Costas Charalambous, to fill a two-three year term vacancy.

Charalambous has been a long-term ISS member, and was recently on the 2015 ballot. He has positioned Global Marine Communications (GMC) as a perennial ISS sponsor, most notably of ISS’s annual membership mixer during the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Born in Cyprus in 1969, Costas Charalambous moved to the UK in 1974 where he studied, finishing in 1987 at Sir George Monoux College; he then worked as an IT manager for an event and production company until returning to Cyprus in 1992.

From 1992 until 2006, he worked in several IT-related positions until joining Servicesat, a company providing internet via satellite for land users, as a pre-sales engineer where in his first six months, he was awarded a prize by HughesNet for exceeding their sales targets for the entire year.

In June 2007, Costas was promoted to sales manager at newly formed GMC; a company formed to provide internet via satellite for moving vessels.  Excelling in all aspects of operations, sales and promotion, Costas then became GMC director.

Costas has visited many of the superyacht industry’s boats shows, including Dubai, Antibes, Cannes, Monaco, Ft. Lauderdale, Hainan, Antigua and many more, including conferences in Europe and America. Additionally, he has arranged the provision of Wi-Fi internet services to exhibitors, clients and SYBAss members at the Antibes, Dubai, and Ft. Lauderdale shows.

Costas is a people-person and looks forward to implementing ISS’s objectives in sustainability and excellence in the yachting industry.
