Heesen commences construction on maiden 50m 5000 Aluminium class superyacht

Dutch yard Heesen has announced the addition of a new superyacht to its new 5000 Aluminium class – and revealed that construction work is already underway for an anticipated delivery in early 2021.

50-metre (164-foot) Project Aquamarine, as it is currently known, will become the first fast-cruising yacht below 500GT to be IMO Tier III compliant, according to Heesen.

The motor yacht will feature a hull designed by the yard’s in-house naval architects, in collaboration with Van Oossanen Naval Architects. A raised transom shape and propeller tunnels have been incorporated into the design to optimise performance; Heesen estimates that it will provide an “efficiency gain of 12%”.

Project Aquamarine will boast a fresh, modern exterior design by Omega Architects. Frank Laupman, founder of Omega, noted, “The design we created for the new 5000 Aluminium Class combines our own heritage with that of Heesen as a builder of elegant and sporty aluminium motor yachts. The ‘integrated hull and body design’, which was first seen on the iconic 65-metre Galactica Star, gives a strong character to the yacht’s profile.”

Among the superyacht’s noteworthy features are a raised aft deck and a full-height tender garage at the stern, which transforms into a deluxe beach club when the craft has been launched.

Cristiano Gatto has implemented the yacht’s Japanese-inspired interior design, which connects the yacht’s luxury guest areas. Accommodation is for up to 12 guests across four lower deck guest suites and master stateroom located on the main deck.

Power comes from MTU 16V4000M65L green oceanic engines, which will operate together with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to reduce emissions. The yacht will be capable of a top speed of 23 knots and a range of 3,100 nautical miles at 11 knots.
