Heesen launches 55m superyacht Project Pollux

Dutch yard Heesen has launched its 55-metre (180-foot) superyacht Project Pollux.

The 55-metre Steel FDHF yacht hit the water at the yard's Oss-based facility in August and is set to begin sea trials in the North Sea next month.

Alongside the launch announcement, the yard also revealed the yacht's Bannenberg & Rowell-penned 760GT interior.

The brief called for "style that combines bold solutions with a casual appeal", the yard said. Materials used in the interior include the likes of dark eucalyptus and pale sycamore joinery. Other details include chevron parquet flooring in the main saloon, alongside "geometric shapes, natural tones and tactile finishes" throughout.

Dickie Bannenberg, co-founder, said, "It’s always an exciting milestone in the build process when launch marks the final few months of work. We’ve tested the Heesen joinery team with plenty of curves and details and they have done a beautiful job. We are greatly looking forward to seeing her finished.”

Project Pollux’s exterior design meanwhile is penned by Frank Laupman’s Omega Architects and features floor to ceiling windows, open bulwarks and “chiselled lines”, the yard said.

The carefully considered layout of Pollux sees the toys and tenders stored on the foredeck while the beach club and wellness area sit aft close to the water.

Interior social areas are found on the main and bridge deck, while the 100-square metre sun deck provides al fresco relaxation.

Accommodation is for a total of 12 guests, with the 82-square metre owner’s apartment located on the main deck. Decorated in a palette of “taupes, browns and creams”, the master suite includes a his and hers bathroom with a shower and bath tub.

The rest of the guest accommodation sits across the bridge and lower decks, with two twins and two doubles on the lower deck and a fifth VIP cabin on the bridge deck.

Power will come from two MTU 8V 4000 M63 diesel engines for a top speed of 15.5 knots and a range of 4,500 nautical miles at 13 knots.
