Heesen launches Project Nova

The 49.8m Heesen superyacht Project Nova has been launched in Oss and called Home.

Launched on 14th April 2017, the owner is described as a yacht enthusiast who has owned multiple yachts before, with Home being their first Heesen. The project was sold in July 2016, with delivery scheduled for June 2017.

Thom Conboy from Heesen Yachts USA said, “The client was attracted to this project for several reasons including its unique and modern exterior as well as its modern, high-tech interior design.”

Home features exterior styling from Frank Laupman of Omega Architects a “modern, innovative yacht with striking lines and a lot of glass”, with Cristiano Gatto bought in by the owner to transform her interiors.

Gatto explained, “The owner asked us to modify the colour scheme, design details and overall decoration to give the interior a contemporary design”, which can be seen in the matte finished, linear styling and freestanding Paola Lenti furniture.

Home is finished in a colour palette of white, grey, silver and burgundy, with different finishes and materials used to create distinction between the areas on board. Woodwork is split between brushed spruce and grey koto, with en-suite bathrooms fitted with Nero Setta and Bianco Neve marbles.

Her notable features include the sundeck, which hosts a 4.8m bar area finished in translucent Corian and sheltered by a large hardtop. She has a circular spa pool aft, while alfresco dining can be found on the upper deck aft, around a circular table. Her upper deck saloon features Flexiteek flooring and loose furniture, creating a seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces.

The main deck features the same relaxed, modern styling, with a glass-sided veranda leading into the main saloon, which features an L-shaped sofa and indoor dining table for 10 guests.

Home is an all-aluminium superyacht built with a focus on efficiency, and is the first Heesen to add a hybrid propulsion system to the innovative Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) by Van Oossanen Naval Architects.

According to Heesen, she will burn 98L of fuel per hour at 12 knots, and only 57L at 10 knots. Despite being powered by relatively small engines for her size – twin 804hp MTU 12V 2000 M6IS – she will still achieve a top speed of 16.3 knots when powered by her main engines, steadied by a zero-speed stabilisation system.

Her diesel-electric propulsion system will also allow for silent cruising up to nine knots, while she will enjoy more on-board space thanks to her smaller engine room.

Particular attention was reportedly paid to weight and noise control, allowing her to achieve a transatlantic range of 3,750NM while cruising at 12 knots, despite carrying just 45,000L of fuel. As such, Heesen’s Mark Cavendish predicts that Home will register 46 decibels of noise in the owner’s suite while cruising in electric mode – the equivalent to soft rainfall.

Home accommodates 12 guests across her six staterooms,  which include a main-deck owner’s suite with its own office and walk-in wardrobes. Further accommodation is located on her lower deck, separated from the engine room by a gym with exercise bike and free weights.

Following her debut season cruising Norway and the Mediterranean, Home will cross the Atlantic to make her public debut at the 2017 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Other projects currently under development at the Dutch shipyard include the 55m project Alida, which is due for launch before the end of the year.
