Heesen Yachts announces launch of Project Akoya

Heesen Yachts has announced the launch of its YN 17650 superyacht Project Akoya, during a private ceremony on Friday.

Measuring 50m, Project Akoya is a 50m aluminium semi-displacement yacht, and the fifth in the award-winning 50m class. Her streamlined exterior styling was completed by Omega Architects, with “shark grey” hull colour adding “grace to the elegant exterior lines,” according to a statement by Heesen Yachts. Her naval architecture was completed by Heesen and Van Oossanen.

Space was a heavily optimised feature throughout Project Akoya, and she has the highest possible internal volume under the 500GT threshold. She is powered by two MTU 16V 400 M73L engines, and is able reach a top speed of 23 knots, and a range of 3,100nm cruising at 11 knots.

Inside, her design was completed by Cristiano Gatto, and features teak, stainless steel and leather materials. According to Heesen, “the combination of supple leathers contrasting against the elegant shine of stainless steel detailing, is highly contemporary Italian design at its very best.”

She is able to accommodate up to 12 guests in six staterooms, with a master suite on the main deck and remaining guest cabins on the lower deck. The guest cabins include a full-beam VIP suite, two twin rooms which can also be transformed into doubles, and two other double rooms. All cabins come with ensuite bathrooms.

Akoya will now undergo intensive sea trials in the North Sea, before being delivered to her owner in June.
