Heesen Yachts announces sale of Project Nova

Dutch superyacht builder Heesen Yachts has recently confirmed that its latest superyacht build, Project Nova, has been sold. 

The 50m superyacht is being built with the Heesen fast displacement hull configuration. The client, who Heesen describes as a “yacht connoisseur”, was introduced to the shipyard by Thom Conboy of Heesen Yachts USA.

Project Nova’s exterior lines and styling were fronted by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, whilst the interior styling was handled by Sinot Yacht Design. 

The exterior design has been described by some experts as “a break from Heesen’s customary design traits”, to the extent that “she is almost unrecognisable as a Heesen superyacht.” The design brief presented to Omega was reported as likening the project to a beach villa with an abundance of glass.

Heesen has also introduced a hybrid propulsion system in the build, resulting in “virtually silent cruising” from two water-cooled 127kW CD electric shaft motors. Speeds of up to nine knots can be achieved with the engines off, using the generators alone. The vessel’s fuel consumption is said to be “significantly reduced” due to its efficiency.

Scheduled for delivery in 2017, Project Nova is one of seven yachts under construction at the Dutch facility.
