Icon Yachts offers construction update on extended refit facility

Dutch yard Icon Yachts has presented new images of its in-build extended refit facility, which is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of the year.

Construction began on the site in July after Icon’s shareholders voted to build a new floating shed to accommodate the growing number of refit projects coming to the yard.

Once complete, the floating shed will span 130 metres and be equipped with up to 28 metres of mast clearance. The new facility will increase the yard’s refit capacity by nearly 100%, allowing Icon to undertake bigger projects.

Earlier in the year, Icon said it was inspired after talking to a captain of “one of the most prestigious yachts in the world”, who believed captains “always prefer to stay in the water”.

“That is why a floating dock for refits makes sense,” it added.

Icon has announced that its new facility will enable it to take on more north European builds and ensure that refit projects are delivered “on time and on budget”.

Meanwhile, the yard revealed it has recruited more than 25 new employees over the past 12 months, with over 300 metres of yacht projects underway.
