Icon Yachts reveals more about Sherakhan refit

The 70m classic superyacht Sherakhan has taken temporary residence at Dutch yard Icon Yachts for a fresh winter refit, it has been confirmed.

Work began in mid-September and is due for completion on 10th November. The most obvious change will be the finish on her hull, which will be changed from a classic vintage blue to a minimalistic, contemporary white.

Commenting on the refit, the owner of Sherakhan said, “You won’t be able to recognise her, she is getting a completely new look and when you will see her you won’t believe it is the same boat.”

Other work to be carried out during the refit includes an interior refit, upgraded electrical and AV systems as well as new cabling throughout. After completion, she will be setting off on a worldwide cruise, visiting Antarctica, Patagonia, Polynesia, Greenland and the Baltic Sea.

Launched in 1966 by Dutch architects and engineers Vuyk, she was the first yacht to attain Bureau Veritas Class, meaning her 1,945GT interior can host up to 24 guests split across 12 luxury staterooms, including an owner’s suite, two VIP cabins, five doubles, two twins and two single rooms. Meanwhile, the crew quarters can house a staff of up to 19 people.

Power comes from a single 1,380hp Caterpillar 3512B-DITA diesel engine that propels Sherakhan to a top speed of 13 knots, with a maintained, comfortable cruising speed only slightly lower at 12 knots. When further trimmed back to her economical speed of ten knots, she can travel a range of 3,500 nautical miles, drawing on the 128,000-litre total fuel capacity.
