InLight Evolution launches new hydrogen sailing yacht

French start-up InLight Evolution, founded by Erick Leclerc and Anna Matesic, unveiled plans for a mono-cat, multi-energy sailing yacht at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival.

During GLAM Yachting Day, held in Cannes on 9th September during the festival, InLight Evolution introduced the H2R-Evolution, which is designed by Denn Clifford and the architect Nicolas Fauroux. The sailing yacht is alimented by hydrogen and equipped with three versions of rigging:

  • The VPLP OceanWings – plane wind-connected and used on the famous Energy Observer
  • The sails’ solar cloth – photovoltaic sails made in Mandelieu-La Napoule, near Cannes
  • The blowable Michelin’s sails – the motorisation is taken in charge by EODEC, a French manufacturer and leader in this sector

The first prototype of the hydrogen sailing yacht will be a research laboratory, which will accommodate on-board scientists, researchers and engineers who work within the energy and environmental transition field. It will then become a commercial vessel dedicated to everyone able to afford it, thanks to the industrialisation of its new technologies at the service of humanity.

H2R-Evolution is looking for new investors and/or sponsors to help initiate the project.

InLight Evolution also used the occasion of GLAM Yachting Day to announce its first international exposition on energy and environmental transition (SITEC, which will be held in Cannes in April 2022), and created the first online school dedicated to the preparation of hydrogen technicians, known as H2 School.
