Innovative 28-metre concept revealed by Isaac Burrough

Amsterdam-based designer Isaac Burrough has introduced a new 28-metre (92-foot) motor yacht concept, which he states offers a “more approachable design language” for the yachting industry, with an exterior influenced by product design rather than the architecture and automotive industries that typically shape today’s designs.

Functional and elegant, the concept showcases an exterior with long uninterrupted lines, large clean surfaces and bold rounded edges. It results in a design that is simple yet striking in appearance.

A colour palette of blues and whites is prominent throughout the interior and exterior, creating a summer theme that is inspired by the Cyclade island of Santorini. Amplifying the feeling of a Mediterranean summer, the use of natural teak lends its warmth to the interior, while the contrasting white lacquer keeps the open-plan layout both light and modern.

The design accommodates eight guests, with a full-beam owner’s stateroom on the main deck and a full-beam VIP cabin on the lower deck. A central glass-encased staircase offers easy access between decks, with a separate route for the yacht’s four crewmembers to ensure maximum privacy. Crew accommodation is set on the lower deck forward.

According to Burrough, efficiency was a major consideration in the design, with the hull featuring a vertical bow to maximise the waterline length and reduce resistance, while still incorporating flare in the high bow to maintain seaworthiness. Elsewhere, the flat roof on top of the superstructure is ideal for solar panel integration, which would limit the reliance on fossil-fuel power and improve the boat’s carbon footprint.

Commenting on the concept, Isaac Burrough said, “My goal was to look beyond the usual source of inspiration for the yachting industry, to create a design that is both calming and welcoming.”
