Inserve Yachts holds real-time yacht drill

Inserve Yachts recently held a real-time ship-shore drill; the scenario involved one of the company’s superyachts fictionally moored in the River Thames alongside HMS Belfast during the London Olympics.

In the drill the yacht suffered a collision resulting in damage and serious injuries to the crew of the yacht as well as to the crew of the other vessel involved in the incident.

The drill scenario was run in conjunction with maritime training company Dark Blu Inc, working live with Inserve Yachts office and the vessel.  PR consultants Box PR and a naval architect provided further assistance and advice.

The drill aimed to challenge and question the in-house procedures at Inserve Yachts and to evaluate the actions taken by captain and crew in a dangerous and high-stress situation. The exercise vividly identified the realities of handling a significant incident:

· the swiftly changing nature of a major incident requiring constant re-evaluation and prioritisation

· the speed of information flow in the digital age resulting in a high level of demand from media and other interested parties

· the need to establish clear lines of communication with the scene of the incident

· potential conflicts between personal safety and environmental concerns when dealing with multiple emergencies

To highlight lessons which can be learned from such exercises, Inserve Yachts is planning a forum in the south of France during March 2013 focussing on emergency and security contingencies with emphasis on the importance of realistic training and preparation.

Alongside Jon Gray and Roy Temme of Inserve Yachts, the forum will also feature experts from specialist companies all of whom will be available to discuss specific questions from those working in the industry both onboard and ashore.

Inserve Yachts has run a previous forum highlighting regulatory requirements and future career opportunities for yacht and shore staff.
