JFA Yachts’ Long Island 85 catamaran begins sea trials

JFA Yachts’ second Long Island 85 sailing catamaran has started her sea trials, achieving six knots of speed in just five knots of wind, according to Contractor Incidence Sails.

Hitting the water back in October 2017, the 85 now has a carbon mast and boom fitted.

Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group is responsible for her naval architecture and exterior styling, with a desire to achieve a lightweight and high-performance yacht. The end result is an overall displacement of just 60 tonnes.

Interior styling came from Darnet Design, and prominently features oak and walnut woodwork. Lightweight furniture was therefore included throughout to keep her weight down.

The 26.25-metre (86.12-foot) multihull superyacht can accommodate up to nine guests across her four cabins, with a layout including two double cabins, two twins and a main-deck master cabin — a rare feature among yachts of this size. Meanwhile the crew quarters allow staff accommodation for up to two crew.

Guests can enjoy their time in the large cockpit complete with an al-fresco dining area, a bar and sunpads. A lifting platform is available on the transom, which can be used to launch the 4.8m (15.7ft) tender.

The most notable additional design feature is the flybridge hard top, which comes with a removable isinglass enclosure. When these clear vinyl panels are in place, the space can be comfortably enjoyed even in colder climes.

Power comes from a pair of 380hp Yanmar 6LY3 diesel engines for a top speed of 12 knots and comfortable cruising of ten knots.
