Jongert Shipyard for sale again after takeover falls through

Local Dutch newspaper Noord Hollands Dagblad, has reported that Jongert Shipyard has not been taken over by Acico Yachts, putting the Wieringwerf facility up for sale once more. According to the paper, the deal did not go ahead due to Acico’s board not giving the final go-ahead, but both parties have yet to confirm this.

The Jongert Shipyard, located at the Ijsselmeer in the Netherlands, was acquired by the Veka Group in 2009. Acico Yachts announced the acquisition of the shipyard at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show, after the Veka Group had been attempting to sell the facility. A press release from Acico Yachts coinciding with the announcement at Monaco last year, stated that the merger guaranteed a sustainable future for Jongert, which had been operating since 1953.

Christian Bolinger, managing director at Acico Yachts, commented when the announcement was made, “We can now facilitate total in-house production of superyachts that span up to 60m in length, to the highest quality standard in modern facilities. The Jongert heritage is already in our veins as many of our 50+ craftsmen have a long history as former employees at Jongert. By merging the two companies, a wealth of experience and know-how is reunited and readily available in our service to our clients.”

The Veka Group has expressed interest in selling Jongert Shipyard for some time, due to its continued focus on service vessel construction at its other yards in Lemmer, Werkendam, and Plock in Poland.

With three large production halls, direct waterfront access, and 44,000 sq.m of space, Jongert Shipyard can build superyachts up to 60m in length.
